Center City Philadelphia Condos, Lofts, High-rises, Homes, and Condominiums
People from all walks of life are migrating to the urban lofts, condos, and single family homes in Center City Downtown Philadelphia neighborhoods.
Take the Stanley Family. The Stanley’s are part of Center City’s young, well-educated, affluent, eager participants in a renaissance that has swelled the downtown population 11 percent – to 88,000 – in just seven years. “People are beginning to see that Philadelphia is a viable place to raise a family.
Nina and John Stanley, both in their mid 30s, moved from Manhattan into a Center City Philadelphia condo created out of the top floor of a historic store at 16th and Chestnut Streets. Their teenage daughter, Ashley, has regular visits from friends who love the fact that she lives in Center City. And toddler Jack can point the way to Rittenhouse Square. “Rittenhouse Square is his backyard,” Nina said. She points out that Center City living includes a built-in social network, created when families with no backyards meet others at the square or playground. But what about the stereotypical big-city problems of drugs and crime that intimidate some who are considering such a move. “I’m here to tell you that it’s just as bad in the suburbs,” said Nina, a Mount Airy native raised in suburban Connecticut.
